CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is warning of a scam involving individuals claiming to be part of their personnel.
They say in these scams, callers tell victims they have missed jury duty, grand jury, have an open warrant, or have failed to complete required legal paperwork and must immediately pay a fine or they will be arrested.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says they will never contact you by phone to request money, demand payment of fines, or instruct you to purchase prepaid debit cards.
They share official correspondence from the HCSO or county courts is delivered only through proper legal channels, typically by mail.
If you believe you have been the victim of a scam or wish to report suspicious activity, contact the HCSO non-emergency number at 423-622-0022.
