CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is partnering with 9-1-1 Cellular to launch a new safety app designed to respond to and help prevent emergencies on campus.
The new app, Safe@UTC, gives students, faculty, and staff direct access to safety resources, including campus police, a safe walk feature, and an anonymous tip line.
The app connects users immediately to UTC Police with a single touch of the emergency panic button.
Brett Fuchs, Director of Emergency Management, said the app allows dispatchers to quickly understand and respond to emergencies in real time.
“For folks to reach us instantly from their phone, it connects to our 911 emergency dispatch center on campus. Not only does it tell us the type of emergency the person selects, or just that there is an emergency if they don’t select one, but it allows them to stream video to us wherever they are.”
The Safe@UTC app is now free to download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
