CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Union Gospel Mission is asking for community support as it continues its shelter expansion project.
Earlier this year, the organization broke ground on the addition, which will provide eight more beds for individuals experiencing homelessness.
The campaign, Eight More Beds, Eight More Lives, aims to raise three hundred thousand dollars to complete the project.
Part of that effort includes a fundraiser called Buy the Foot which will help cover the cost of the final six hundred twelve square feet needed.
Rev. Jon Rector, Executive Director of the Union Gospel Mission, says every contribution makes an impact.
“For a gift of two hundred fifty dollars, you can help us provide one square foot. If someone wants to help but cannot give the full amount at once, they may donate twenty-five dollars a month for ten months. That helps us build that one square foot of building.”
The organization says the expansion will help meet a growing need for safe shelter in the Chattanooga region.
