Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)- Hamilton County residents stopped by City Hall Midtown this week for a drive-thru event hosted by the Office of Family Empowerment. The event aimed to help residents learn how to apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.
LIHEAP provides financial assistance to low-income families struggling with rising home energy costs. This year, the program’s application process has moved entirely online. Residents must include a valid email address when submitting their applications.
“So today what we’re doing is a kick-off of our LIHEAP drive-thru,” said Taneka Albert, Program Coordinator for LIHEAP. “We used to give out a paper application, but it has changed this year. Right now, we’re giving out information on how clients can get started. They do have to have an email address, and the information tells them step-by-step how to complete an online application.”
The drive-thru event offered residents an easy way to gather information and ask questions about the application process. LIHEAP aims to ensure families receive the support they need to cover energy expenses, particularly as the colder months approach.
A warm reminder from organizers: community support can make all the difference for families trying to stay warm this winter.
