LAFAYETTE, Ga. (WDEF) – Music, laughter, and small-town pride filled the streets of downtown LaFayette, Georgia, as the community gathered for a watch party celebrating local country artist Channing Wilson.
Wilson’s journey is being featured on The Road, a new CBS series that follows musicians across the country chasing their dreams.
Among those celebrating was Chris Davis, LaFayette City Council member and Wilson’s best friend.
“Watching him go from the high school dance, singing when he was graduating, to going to the small concerts, to where he’s at now, it’s just great,” Davis said. “Seeing it all come together is just wonderful.”
Wilson’s wife, Kristi Wilson, stood proudly among the crowd, reflecting on what this moment means for their family.
“Oh my gosh, I don’t even know the words that can describe it,” she said. “It’s something he’s always been meant to do, and we’re just along for the ride with him, supporting him every step of the way.”
As Channing’s story plays out on the national stage, Davis says the heart of his friend remains right here at home.
“Just continue following that dream and doing what he does,” Davis added.
Kristi Wilson echoed that sentiment, offering her husband a heartfelt message.
“Everybody’s gonna love you as much as we do,” she said. “So just keep being you, babe. Keep kicking butt all along the way.”
Their children, Carter and Susanna Wilson, also shared how proud they are of their dad’s accomplishments.
“I know I’m proud,” they said. “Let’s go! I’m so proud of you. Very, very proud.”
As The Road takes the national spotlight, one thing remains certain, Channing Wilson will always have a place on his hometown stage in LaFayette, Georgia.
