CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – UTC has gotten a state grant to save some local history.
The $1,900 will help digitize materials from the United Hosiery Mills in Chattanooga.
The company founded by the Miller Brothers lasted for almost a century.
They were one of the first companies to license the “Buster Brown” character.
United Hosiery used the comic character in campaigns to market their clothes to children.
The Miller brothers saw the baby boom coming, so they changed over all their products to children’s clothing.
Students have been preparing the United Hosiery Mills records for saving.
Once the digitizing is complete, you can see the items in the UTC Special Collections.
