CHATTANOOGA, Tenn (WDEF)– It’s more than baseball—it’s belonging. This fall, the Miracle League of Chattanooga returns to Rotary Field at Warner Park, inviting athletes of all abilities to step up to the plate.
Now in its ninth year, the league began as a dream shared by local families, Rotary, and the YMCA. That dream became reality with the opening of a fully accessible ballpark and playground—spaces designed so that everyone can safely enjoy the game.
Rick Doug, Senior Program Director for the YMCA, says community support is a big part of what makes the league so special.
“We have volunteers from Chattanooga State University’s women’s basketball team, the Bearded Villains, and a bunch of different organizations in the community come out to volunteer and be buddies,” Doug explained. “They help participants hit the ball, have fun, encourage them, and just have a great time.”
From ages four to ninety-nine, players with physical and cognitive challenges gather every Saturday to celebrate teamwork, friendship, and fun.
“We have two seasons every year,” Doug added. “It’s just an opportunity for kids that don’t normally get a chance to go out and play sports to do that—and for their parents to be able to sit in the stands, watch, and enjoy seeing their child do something they’re learning to love. It’s been an awesome experience for a long time now here in Chattanooga.”
The fall season kicks off September 20 and runs through October 25, featuring weekly games, snacks, and plenty of photo opportunities for families and fans.
