MCMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – At the McMinn Regional Humane Society in Athens, Tennessee, there are many furry friends looking for their forever homes.
What makes eight of them especially urgent is that they are on the SOS list.
The SOS list is created because the shelter must keep animals moving through as new ones continue to arrive. Unfortunately, that puts a timeline on others.
To give these pets the best chance at finding families before their deadline, the Humane Society holds adoption events on weekends when most families are off from school and work.
The last time we showcased animals on the SOS list, every single one found a forever home.
Now, the shelter hopes to do it again.
Two adoption events are scheduled this weekend, ahead of the dogs’ deadline on Wednesday, September 10.

Staff members say you must fill out an application before a dog is considered in the “safe zone.”
The application link will be posted on our social media pages so that if one of these furry friends catches your eye, you can start the process right away.
