HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett has announced his campaign for re-election.
The announcement came on the morning of September 4, 2025.
“Serving as your Sheriff is the honor and privilege of a lifetime. That is why today I am announcing my campaign for re-election. Together, we will keep Hamilton County the greatest place to work, live, and play.”

Sheriff Garrett was sworn into office on September 1, 2022.
Before joining the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Garrett served with the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) for 25 years in several positions.
The HCSO says Garrett retired from the CPD a lieutenant, where he was responsible for command of the Tactical and Traffic Operations Division encompassing 13 specialized units.
The primary election will be May 5, 2026, with the general election starting August 6, 2026.
