CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- A softball player at Boyd-Buchanan is looking to win a big honor as a youth athlete.16 year old Peyton Pryor is a pitcher for the Bucs.
She is one of five finalists for Sports Illustrated’s Youth Athlete of the Year.
That award is given out by that magazine, the cancer research foundation Jimmy V Foundation, and the Why Not You Foundation established by N-F-L quarterback Russell Wilson and singer Ciara.
Pryor looks to use this to raise money for childhood cancer research, as her younger cousin, Hayden Hudgins, is a 7 year cancer survivor.
If given the award, she would feature in an edition of Sports Illustrated and receive 25-thousand dollars to donate in honor of her cousin.
Peyton’s grandmother, Stephanie Hudgins, said, “We really try to teach her to dream big, so this would be a big dream for her realized… They’re really close, and she has a sister Blakely, they’re all really tight.”
Voting for this contest ends on Thursday.
