CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Jerri Green, a Memphis City Council member and Democratic candidate for Tennessee governor, made a campaign stop in Chattanooga today as part of her statewide tour.
Green, who is in her first term on the council, is meeting with residents across Tennessee to hear their concerns directly.
She says issues such as education, childcare, wages, and public safety will be central to her campaign.
In Chattanooga, she emphasized the importance of community conversations.
“If you don’t get close to the issue, you won’t put forward a good solution,” Green said, referencing her recent time spent with public transit riders in Memphis.
She also noted her support for organized labor, pointing to the United Auto Workers at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant, where employees have been active in contract negotiations.
Political race trackers continue to rate Tennessee’s 2026 governor’s race as “safe Republican.”
Two Republican candidates, Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Rep. John Rose, currently hold wide leads in early polling.
Green says her campaign will rely on grassroots organizing, including plans to knock on doors and make calls statewide, as she works to introduce herself to voters.
The Democratic primary will take place on August 6, 2026, followed by the general election on November 3, 2026.
