CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Rotary Club began its weekly meeting with a prayer for those affected by the recent Minnesota school shooting.
Following the opening, members welcomed longtime sportswriter David Paschall as the guest speaker.
Paschall, who has spent decades covering Southeastern Conference sports, came to discuss the upcoming football season and what fans can expect from both SEC and UTC programs.
He noted the excitement surrounding the Volunteers after last year’s win over Alabama and spoke about how Tennessee and Georgia are preparing for the fall.
Paschall also reflected on the broader changes shaping college athletics, including NIL opportunities that now allow players to earn money, revenue-sharing models being introduced across the sport, and the growing impact of the transfer portal.
His remarks highlighted both the opportunities and challenges these changes bring, raising questions about how they may affect player performance and team dynamics in the years ahead.
Rotary members closed the meeting looking forward to their upcoming fellowship week and with plenty of anticipation for another season of college football.
