CHATTANOOGA, Tenn (WDEF) — Chattanooga added some new vehicles to its Public Works fleet.
The Department of Public Works announced today the deployment of recycling and garbage trucks powered by Compressed Natural Gas.
The Department says this is a cleaner energy compared to gasoline and diesel.
They partnered up with Signal Centers and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to emblazon art on the sides of the trucks.
The trucks took part in the annual Back to School Blitz, where public works crews give special attention to school zones to make things a bit cleaner.
Roshonda Woods Director of Solid Waste Division told us, “We wanted to also provide school supplies and focus on literacy, so what better way to focus on literacy than having Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library partner with us to publicize our CNG trucks.”
The QR code on the side of the trucks leads to a page where parents can sign up to receive books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Department of Public Works Administrator Jerramy Wood said in a press release, “Investing in a greener fleet isn’t just about protecting our environment; it’s about investing in the health and well-being of our community. Teaming with the Signal Center and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is the perfect collaboration as we educate our community about recycling, and sustainability. We can use our fleet as a mobile billboard to also support the literacy of our young citizens. It’s a win for everyone! These new trucks represent our dedication to smart, sustainable growth. We’re not just improving our city’s infrastructure; we’re also taking a meaningful step toward a cleaner, healthier Chattanooga for everyone.”
