SUMMERVILLE, Ga. (WDEF) — A Menlo man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after a mobile home shooting almost three years ago.
On December 22, 2022, deputies with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a residence on Reece Street on reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, deputies located the victims involved in the incident, who identified the shooter as Thomas Tucker.
According to the Lookout Mountain District Attorney’s Office, Tucker was returning to the residence after an argument with his former girlfriend.
Tucker honked his horn and when another occupant stepped outside, he fired a handgun.
The occupant immediately went back inside, and Tucker proceeded to fire multiple shots into the residence.
Thankfully nobody was injured, however three bullets did pass through the living area where the three victims were.
Tucker left the scene, and a “Be on the Lookout” was issued for him.
Authorities later located and arrested Tucker at his residence.
A search warrant was executed at Tucker’s residence, where investigators found a 9 millimeter hand gun, and a 9 millimeter casing inside his truck.
On August 19, 2025, a jury returned guilty verdicts on the following counts:
- Aggravated Assault (3 counts)
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime
- Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon.
Tucker was sentenced to 25 years, with 17 year to be served in prison.
“In some parts of the United States, you’re lucky to see a defendant get 17 years in prison even when a cold-blooded murder happens. Not in Northwest Georgia. You put bullets down range and put innocent lives in jeopardy, you can trust you are going to prison for a looooooong time. Sheriff Mark Schrader’s team doesn’t tolerate violence in Chattooga County — and neither does mine.”
