MEIGS COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating an incident that occurred in Meigs County.
Agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) issued three warrants against Norman Burrell for sexual exploitation of a minor.
Before authorities arrived on scene, they notified Burrell that they would be stopping by his residence to interview him.
Upon arrival, Burrell didn’t answer the door.
According to the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) the four deputies made entry upon receiving consent from Burrell’s wife who had left the home at our request for her safety.
When they made entry, they heard a gunshot go off in the basement area of the residence.
The deputies found Burrell suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot would to the chest.
EMS pronounced Burrell dead at the scene after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The TBI is currently investigating this incident.
