CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Could the Hamilton County Commission’s meeting time change?
During Wednesday’s meeting centered on the controversial Plan Hamilton vote, several residents voiced how inconvenient the 9:30 a.m. meeting time of the County Commission has been throughout this process.
They argue it freezes out many citizens from attending and participating in this political process due to being at work, as these meetings can last hours.
This week’s meeting in particular lasted four hours.
Several commissioners say they’re open to exploring a time change.
Chairman Jeff Eversole said, “I fully, fully, fully, fully personally support changing our meeting time. I think that would be the right thing to do. I don’t know how long or how many centuries we have had it at 9:30 on Wednesday morning but I think we need to keep up with the changing environment that we are in.”
A resolution would have to be brought forward to change the time.
Considerations over staffing and overtime pay for deputies could be potential hurdles according to county officials.
