CHATTANOOGA, FORT OGLETHORPE (WDEF) – Much of the flood waters from last night have dropped, but we’re learning just how deadly the flash flooding was.
Hamilton County Emergency Management says three people have died from the affects of the storm.
A tree fell on a car in the 1100 block of South Moore Road in East Ridge early this morning.
Two adults and a child were killed.
Chattanooga first responders are searching for a man who walked through flood waters on East Brainerd Road last night.
He hasn’t been seen since.
I 24 is back open after being shut down in the construction zone.
Several vehicles were flooded.
But officials cleared them and reopened the interstate around midnight.
In north Georgia, swift water rescue teams were busy at two apartment complexes in Fort Oglethorpe.
They evacuated about 80 people at The Crossings on Fant Drive where flash flooding got waist deep in the floor units.
Rescuers also brought out 35 people from the Fountain Brooks apartments on Cross Street.
No one was injured there.
Catoosa County provided overnight shelters for residents.
Back in Hamilton County, Mayor Wamp and emergency personell toured the flooding damage this morning and are preparing for the potential of more.
We are under a Flash Flood watch with more heavy rain predicted for today.
There are Flash Flood warnings now in Marion and Jackson Counties.
