CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – Foundation House Ministries, a Cleveland-based nonprofit, is sounding the alarm after receiving a record number of calls about babies born addicted to drugs.
Executive Director Suzanne Burns says the number of addiction-related calls in 2025 has already surpassed those from all of last year.
“These babies are being born into crisis,” said Burns. “We’re hearing from DCS, from hospitals, and from courts, and we don’t have enough beds or funding to meet the need.”
Foundation House provides safe housing, recovery support, and job training for pregnant women and mothers overcoming addiction.
Residents work in the nonprofit’s two thrift shops, where they begin reintegrating into the workforce and rebuilding their lives in sobriety.
“I’m not just surviving anymore. I’m living,” said resident Magan King, whose baby tested positive for meth. “Without Foundation House, I wouldn’t be here.”
The organization is launching a bold new fundraising effort, asking 100 people to donate $1,000 to meet a $100,000 goal.
Burns says every contribution, no matter the amount, helps a mom take one more step toward healing.
The thrift shops, located in Cleveland and Athens, are open to the public, and all proceeds support the recovery program.
Shoppers can visit between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
Foundation House says recovery is possible, but it takes community support to make it happen.
