Chattanooga, TN(WDEF)- Inside the Gerald McCormick Conference Center, a strong display of unity and support unfolded as leaders from across Tennessee came together for an important cause.
The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office, joined by state and local officials, awarded 36 grants totaling more than \$1 million. The funding will go directly to volunteer fire departments and rescue squads across Hamilton, Marion, Polk, and nearby counties.
These grants are intended to help departments purchase life-saving equipment, including turnout gear and oxygen packs used in emergency situations.
“It’s so critical for small departments to have this level of funding,” said Tennessee State Representative Mark Cochran. “This money is absolutely saving lives—whether it’s gear to go into a burning building or equipment for CPR, it makes a real difference.”
This initiative is part of an ongoing annual grant program aimed at strengthening the resources and readiness of first responders serving some of Tennessee’s most vulnerable communities.
