Dalton, GA (WDEF) – Flash flooding swamped parts of Whitfield County late Saturday night into Sunday, August 3rd, after heavy rains dropped up to six inches in just a few hours.
The most severe impacts were seen in low-lying areas, including Cleveland Highway, Willowdale Road, and Coronet Drive, where roadways quickly became impassable.
Emergency crews responded to multiple reports of water-covered roads and rising creeks, with the worst conditions reported around Mill Creek.
By Sunday evening, water levels began receding in some areas, but the danger isn’t over yet.
A Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday evening, with forecasters predicting two to four more inches of rainfall that could trigger additional flash flooding.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas, monitor local alerts, and use caution when driving, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions.
