SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF)- A portion of a popular trail on Signal Mountain is temporarily closed.
The suspension bridge on the Rainbow Lake Trail was damaged by a tree.
The bridge connects that trail to Edward’s Point and the Cumberland Trail.
That bridge is operated by TDEC.
Signal Mountain’s town manager, Matthew Justice, says that this situation accelerated plans to replace the bridge anyway.
“They were already working with us to figure out a replacement plan for the bridge as it was aging out, so they were on site today with plans to build a new replacement bridge early in August,” said Justice.
They ask hikers to take the Bee Branch Trail as a detour at this time until the bridge is repaired.
