CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Dangerously high temperatures are settling in across the Tennessee Valley.
Emergency officials are urging the public to take precautions.
The Hamilton County Emergency Services say the heat index could push into the triple digits, raising concerns for heat exhaustion and dehydration.
They are reminding people to stay indoors when possible, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Amy Maxwell with the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management said, “This heat is so dangerous, and we cannot emphasize enough the importance of being prepared ahead of time. If you have to be outdoors, wear light, loose clothing and try to limit your time outside. Take plenty of breaks, a lot of water breaks, and rest for just a few minutes, especially in the shade. Maybe wear a hat that can protect you from the sun and keep your face covered as much as possible.”
Maxwell also reminds everyone not to leave any children or pets in a vehicle, even for just a minute, and to call 2-1-1 to find a cooling center near you.
