CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – As families prepare for back-to-school season, eye doctors are reminding parents not to overlook their child’s vision.
Experts say comprehensive eye exams with an optometrist should be part of every child’s annual routine, especially as screen use continues to rise in and out of classrooms.
Studies show that vision screenings done in schools or pediatric offices provide less than 4% of the information found in a full eye exam.
That means many issues like myopia (nearsightedness), eye coordination problems, or dry eye go undetected, potentially leading to learning struggles that are often mistaken for behavioral or academic delays.
Parents who want to schedule an exam or learn more can contact a local optometrist or visit the American Optometric Association at aoa.org for resources and provider listings.
