The halls of Catoosa College and Career Academy were filled with energy, smiles, and school spirit as families gathered for Catoosa Kids Day—an annual event designed to support students and set them up for a successful school year.
The event offered more than just school supplies. Families received free backpacks, health screenings, dental checkups, and even haircuts. Local organizations also provided resources and information to help both students and parents feel confident about the year ahead.
Anthony Dye, Executive Director at the Children’s Advocacy Center, says the event is about more than the materials—it’s about unity and encouragement.
“Yeah, for the next generation—this shows that your community can come together and be bigger than one person,” Dye said. “It’s always really important for your community to gather around these kids, to show them support, to show them what care and concern for themselves looks like. It’s amazing—just so many people here every year, and it keeps growing.”
Organizers say the goal isn’t just to get students ready for the first day of class—but to help them stay ready for the future.
Rick Christman, CEO of Primary Health Center, noted the increasing reach of the event.
“This is by far the largest crowd we’ve had, and we’re just excited that so many families are coming out,” Christman said. “It’s a huge blessing.”
The long-term impact of events like this is something county leaders are thinking about too.
Andy Johnson, representing Catoosa County, said readiness starts long before high school.
“We started thinking about graduation not when they’re in high school, but when they start school,” Johnson said. “I think families will be able to look back—those even starting pre-K—and when they get to graduation, they can say, ‘Yeah, they helped get my kid ready for that milestone.’”
The atmosphere was festive and supportive, with students leaving not just with new supplies—but with renewed excitement and confidence.
With full backpacks and full hearts, Catoosa Kids Day helped send students into the new school year prepared, encouraged, and surrounded by a community that believes in them.
