Dalton, Georgia (WDEF) — The family of Carlos Salazar-Hernandez is raising alarms about his declining health in detention, particularly his worsening vision. His sister, Yvette Hernandez, expressed concern, saying, “It’s heartbreaking, especially for my mom and daughter. My daughter calls him ‘Tito’ and won’t eat, asking when he’s coming home.”
Carlos’s arrest began with a routine traffic stop at a gas station. Yvette explained, “He didn’t see the car coming; he was just pumping gas when the sheriff approached. He didn’t know he was supposed to pay right away.” He was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, giving a false name, and failure to yield.
Since being detained, Carlos’s vision in his right eye has deteriorated, prompting the family to demand better medical care. The detention facility issued a statement saying Carlos has seen an eye doctor, but the family feels this is insufficient.
Yvette added, “We just want him to get the care he needs. It’s not right for anyone to suffer like this.”
The Hernandez family is waiting for Carlos’s court date on August 13, hoping for his release and improved health care during detention.
The family has started a go fund me for legal fees.
