CHEROKEE COUNTY, N.C. (WDEF) — An Andrews man was arrested after allegedly firing shots during a road rage incident.
On Thursday, July 17, 2025, deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a road rage incident on US 19.
CCSO said a vehicle had rammed another vehicle, and the suspect fired six to seven shots at the victim’s vehicle.
After deputies arrived on scene, it was determined that the suspect was Odis Zachary Luther.
The victims also told deputies that the incident was the result of an argument over possible stolen property.
After they left the scene of the argument, Luther got into his vehicle and began to chase them.
CCSO said Luther also shot at the victims and rammed his vehicle into the rear end of their vehicle.
This caused the victims to crash near the Glenn Drive/US 19. intersection.
They were later transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Luther had fled the scene but was later located in a boat on a pond off of Columbia Marble Plant Road.
He surrendered himself and was taken into custody without incident.
Luther is being charged with eight counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.
