CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Tennessee’s roads are under pressure. As more drivers switch to hybrid and electric vehicles, gas tax revenue, the state’s main source for road funding, is slowly drying up.
At today’s Hamilton County Pachyderm Club meeting, State Representative and Transportation Committee Chair Dan Howell addressed these challenges.
Here is what Howell told the Club and News 12:
“Increase demand on our highways. There are many other pressures that have shown that Tennessee must find, we must find, additional funding streams to maintain the infrastructure that we have to have not just today but 50 years from now.”
It’s specifically impacting the infrastructure that keeps Tennessee moving, especially as the state remains a major crossroads for commercial trucking.
Chattanooga in specific being the number one intercross for Semi Trucks in the US.
