HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp has appointed a new leader for the Hamilton County Health Department.
Beka Bohannon was appointed by Mayor Wamp to be the next administrator of the Hamilton County Health and Social Services Division.
Bohannon was already involved in the Hamilton County Government.
She is currently the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, and has been helping shape the county’s response to the opioid crisis.
“I believe Beka will bring a forward-thinking vision for public health and a passion for innovation as we prepare to enter the design phase of a new Health Department facility, which will modernize the delivery of public in our county. Her leadership and experience will be invaluable as we work to improve health outcomes for residents across Hamilton County,” said Mayor Wamp.
Bohannon began working for Hamilton County under former Mayor Jim Coppinger.
He appointed her to be the Director of Mental Health Court.
She’s also a licensed mental health therapist through the Tennessee Department of Health.
“I’m honored to be entrusted with this role at such a pivotal time for public health in Hamilton County. With a focus on improving access, strengthening partnerships, and delivering responsive, people-centered services, my priority will be enhancing the well-being of our community, and I look forward to supporting the dedicated professionals who serve on the front lines of public health everyday,” said Bohannon.
Bohannon will be replacing Sabrina Novak, who was suddenly fired in November of 2024.
The County Commission will vote on her appointment at the July 16 meeting.
