COHUTTA, Ga. (WDEF) – A young girl’s strength is inspiring hearts across our region after surviving a devastating car crash that changed her life forever.
On January 12, 2024, Khloie was severely injured in a weather-related crash in Whitfield County.
Slick roads covered in snow and ice caused her vehicle to slide off the road, ending in a near-fatal wreck.
First responders at the scene quickly realized the severity of the situation and called in LifeForce for emergency transport.
Khloie’s injuries were extensive—but miraculously, she survived.
Now, her family is asking for the community’s support as they navigate a new way of life.
They’re hosting a benefit to raise funds for the mobility equipment and medical care Khloie now depends on.
Her mother, McKenzie Moss, recalls the terrifying moments following the crash.
“They would say she’s fine, and then the next day they said she wasn’t gonna make it.”
Khloie suffered a severe brain injury and, unbelievably, a tree limb pierced her neck.
She also experienced a stroke on her left side, which has significantly impacted her mobility.
“She can’t bear weight on the left part of her body. She always has to carry three bags with her at all times—and an oxygen tank just in case,” McKenzie explains. “So even something like going to the store is no longer a five-minute task. It takes about an hour just to get her in and out of the car.”
The road to recovery has been difficult, and with McKenzie now acting as Khloie’s full-time caretaker, the family is feeling the weight of financial strain.
Kristy Tate, a family friend, is helping organize the event.
“The needs don’t stop. The bills don’t stop. We’re just hoping the community can come together and help check off some of these needs.”
The benefit offers a chance to do just that—support a mother who dropped everything to care for her daughter, and help Khloie regain some of her independence.
“I can’t leave her by herself anymore. She can’t sleep alone,” McKenzie says. “It’s been really hard for Khloie because she was a normal teenager before this. Now she doesn’t get to do the things with her friends like she used to.”
For this family, every bit of support means the world—but they say they can’t do it alone.
“Just come out, hang out with us, meet Khloie, and show some love to this family,” says Tate.
Khloie, who now uses a tablet to communicate, had a special message to share:
“Come get party bracelets and a shirt. Thank you for all the love and support—and don’t give up on your dreams. All gas, no brakes.”
