WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — A Walker County couple accused of multiple counts of animal cruelty has now been arrested.
Ronald Jackson and his wife Melissa Jackson were taken into custody on July 1 by the Morven Police Department.
Walker County said the couple was located about 18 miles from the Florida state line.
They were transported back to Walker County the next day and booked on outstanding warrants related to the case.
The charges stem from an investigation at a business on McFarland Avenue in Rossville, Georgia.
Walker County deputies discovered three dead dogs and five others in poor condition inside a small, overheated room with no food, water, or ventilation.
The couple now faces six felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, along with several other charges including improper disposal of animals, abandonment, and violations of Georgia’s rabies control law.
Authorities say the dogs had been moved to the business while the couple stayed in a hotel.
Four dogs survived, though two tested positive for Parvo.
If convicted, the Jacksons face up to 30 years in prison and $90,000 in fines.
