Blythe Oldfield Park transformed into a place of excitement and generosity this weekend, as children raced across the grass with new toys in hand and smiles that stretched from ear to ear.
Cleveland,TN- (WDEF) The joyful scene was all part of Operation Compassion’s annual toy giveaway—an event aimed at uplifting families and connecting with the Cleveland community.
“We are so excited to be out here in this part of the city,” said Kelvin Page, President of Operation Compassion. “For a number of years, we’ve wanted to let people know that we’re here. We’ve been in existence for 25 years doing disaster relief—we’re known for that.”
But this weekend, the nonprofit turned its focus local.
“Instead of always going across the sea, we wanted to go across the street,” Page said. “We decided to do something for our local area, and we partnered with Toys for Tots to make it happen.”
Through that partnership, the organization was able to hand out high-quality toys—some valued at up to $157 each—to children in the Cleveland area.
“It’s been absolutely incredible,” Page added. “You usually hear about ‘Christmas in July,’ but we did Christmas in late June. It’s a tremendous opportunity to bless kids and bless families. We’re just grateful because this area has been good to us.”
Operation Compassion says the toy giveaway is just one step in a broader mission to strengthen community ties, support families in need, and make sure their neighbors know they’re not alone.
And for the families at Blythe Oldfield Park this weekend, that message came through—loud and clear.
