The cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s declining mental acuity and his administration’s use of the autopen ranks as the second “biggest political scandal in American history,” President Donald Trump said.
In Trump’s words on his social media platform, only the 2020 presidential election was a worse scandal.
“With the exception of the RIGGED PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2020, THE AUTOPEN IS THE BIGGEST POLITICAL SCANDAL IN AMERICAN HISTORY!!!” Trump posted in Wednesday’s early hours on Truth Social.
Reuters reported that Ed Martin, the Justice Department’s pardon attorney, told staff Monday that he has been directed to investigate clemency granted by Biden in the waning days of his presidency to members of his family and death row inmates.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is investigating who was running the country when Biden was president.
“Who would put the document in there? Who gave that staffer the authority? Was it Joe Biden or was it another staffer? We don’t believe Joe Biden knew what was going on,” Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., said on Newsmax’s “Rob Schmitt Tonight.”
An autopen is a device used to automatically affix a signature to a document. Trump and his supporters have claimed Biden’s use of the device while president invalidated his actions or suggested that he was not fully aware of these actions. It is not known whether Biden used the autopen on pardons.
Late last month, Trump blamed Biden’s White House team of “treasonous thugs” for hijacking control of the country due to the then-president’s declining mental state.
In a social media post, Trump said Biden’s team committed “treason” by opening the southern border to “criminals of all kinds, shapes, and sizes.”
“The Joe Biden that everybody knew would never allow drug dealers, gang members, and the mentally insane to come into our Country totally unchecked and unvetted. All anyone has to do is look up his record,” Trump wrote.
“Something very severe should happen to these Treasonous Thugs that wanted to destroy our Country, but couldn’t, because I came along. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Biden, who is 82, last year dropped his reelection bid amid questions about his mental acuity after a disastrous presidential debate performance. Biden was the oldest person to serve as U.S. president.
