Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, told Newsmax on Tuesday that the U.S. and China “need to get a deal done” on trade and criticized the leadership in Beijing for “not following” previous agreements.
Although President Donald Trump paused his wide-ranging tariffs on China while negotiations continue, CNBC reports that U.S. agricultural products are “vanishing from Chinese stores and restaurants” due to uncertainty about prices.
Hinson, whose state last year exported almost $1 billion in goods to China, told Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” that Washington and Beijing “need to get a deal done, plain and simple, and nobody better to do that than the master dealmaker, President Trump.”
The congresswoman added, “I think what we’re seeing is the art of the deal in action. We need tough talk with China. China has been taking advantage of our farmers, our producers, our manufacturers for decades. And that has to stop.”
Hinson said that “what’s important here is that we do hold them accountable” to whatever agreement is made “because…we can we can talk tough and we can get these good deals signed into law, but China has not been following these deals.”
She added, “We need to enforce our tariffs, our duties, because they will find every single loophole to get around them and they have been doing that for decades.”
