Commission chooses not to fire Magistrate

Magistrate vote

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – After a long debate and a closed door meeting, the Hamilton county commission this morning decided not to fire a magistrate who was accused of making some serious errors.

With commissioner Tim Boyd calling for the dismissal of Stuart Brown, the commission was divided on how to handle the dispute.

At an earlier 2-hour long meeting, two sessions court judges discussed mistakes made by the newly seated magistrate..including losing 11 warrants.

The chief magistrate recommended Brown’s dismissal citing his lack of training for the job.

The motion before commissioners was to fire Brown, but Commissioner Joe Graham amended it.

“My amended motion was, that we provide proper training for Mr. Brown before we consider termination, we give him thirty days, uh, from the time the training starts, there was some discussion about amounts of money, and persons that we tried to clean up and leave the name out and leave the amount out.”

That motion passed on a 5-to-4 vote.

The amended motion leaves choosing a trainer up to county Attorney Rheubin Taylor, and the pay for the trainer set at $60 an hour.

Tennessee’s 2018 class ranked 20th in the nation. That’s admirable for Jeremy Pruitt who had only a week to address the inaugural early signing period. However, it’s certainly reasonable to think it could have been better had Pruitt had more time to recruit for the Vols.   In a recent interview with WGOW, UT athletic…

Jeremy Pruitt certainly faced plenty of challenges as he attempted to assemble the best possible 2018 class for Tennessee.   Now the first-year head coach, the former Alabama defensive coordinator had to fill out his coaching staff, address the bizarre Jauan Jennings’ situation and, oh yeah, he had to put together a recruiting class with…
